Perennial Plants For Drought Tolerance
Got dry soil in an area that can't be reached with a water hose? Or, you just don't have the time to do much watering in the garden? Drought-tolerant perennial plants are the perfect low-maintenance choice for gardeners.
Drought tolerant perennials, such as the many varieties of sedums, are very easy to grow and typically require very little if any maintenance. Once established, many will survive through the longest periods of drought requiring no water for survival.
Drought tolerant perennials can be useful as accents throughout the landscape in dry areas or grouped together in a "rock garden". When planting them in a rock garden, you'll need some rocks of course.
Combining rocks and the plants together in a rock garden can be a wonderful creative exercise and fun for the entire family. With a little planning (and some work) you can create a rock garden of your own wherever you live, even where there is high summer humidity. Your rock garden will be most successful when you mix rock garden perennials, small garden shrubs and trees, and dwarf varieties of other plants that can be adapted to rock garden culture in the area.
Rock gardens can be located in sunny or shady areas so long as the soil is consistently dry, and well-drained. Rock gardens are really beautiful so try to position one where you can see and appreciate it from a window inside your home or near outdoor living areas where you and your guests will spend time together outdoors. If you can see it every day, you will appreciate it all the more.
