Delta Clear Mix pansies produce an abundance of large blooms in vibrant colors including yellow, red, orange, blue, purple and white. "Clear" means the blooms are solid in color with no faces. As with other pansies they are cool season annuals that do not like the heat. In the South, pansies are typicall planted in early fall and will bloom until mid-spring when the heat come on. Plant pansies in well-drained beds with fertile soil or containers with a light professional potting mix and full sun for best performance. Space Pansy plants 4" - 6" apart depending on how quickly you wish the area to fill in. Lightly mulching the plants is always beneficial. Do not overwater pansies and never water them in the late evening as this can promote the onset of damaging fungus or disease.

Pansies are a low nutrient plant meaning they do not require much fertilizer. At time of planting fertilize with a timed-release plant food to feed your pansies over many months. Use a specialty Pansy Food that contains nitrate nitrogen. Mix ing the fertilizer into the soil before setting out the plants is recommended. Reapply fertilizer in late winter/early Spring to promote profuse blooming. Alternatively, you may use a natural or organic fertilizer every 4 to 6 weeks to promote health and incresed blooming. Removing faded blooms will also stimulate more flower production.

Pansies do not require pruning, however deadheading (removing spent flowers and stems) helps to increase flowering. If you purchase pansy plants that have "stretched" (become leggy) in the pots they are growing in, cut them back by 50% of their height at time of planting. Doing so will promote quicker "rooting in" and a bushier plant that will produce more stems and flowers.

Pansies have very few problems with insects. Diseases, such as stem rot, which causes the plant to collapse without warning can be a problem, particularly in beds or pots that are not well-drained. Pansies prefer growing in very well-drained soil - Raised beds or well-drained pots in a light, professional potting mix is highly recommended. Destroy any plants affected by disease to prevent spreading. Use of a fungal drench prior to planting can be beneficial as a preventive measure.
